All Hail the Co-Regents

This post is going to be a bit of an info dump, so bear with me while I get this all out of my system.

My room mate and I are entirely transfixed on the world of Role Playing, particularly the aspect of character creation in a non-traditional sense. We don’t sit in a dark basement and role 20 sided die, but in some respects our fun is just as geeky.

I was introduced to RP by Angie on a now defunct site called Life Imitating Art, where I met my first RP alter-ego, Ida Dunham (say it fast, honey.) Ida, portrayed brilliantly in graphics by Geri Halliwell, is pretty much everything I am not. She speaks her mind no matter who is listening, she is brash and larger than life. I love her dearly, to the point where I try to portray her on any RP in which I am actively participating. I am quite aware that she is not real in the traditional sense, but she is the clearest picture of a character that I have ever had, and so she is real in my mind.

After the experience with Ida, I decided that building and administrating RP boards was something that I would like to get under my belt. Ask anyone who knows me, and they will tell you I am nothing if not ambitious with my creative endeavors. I didn’t want to start with just one site, I wanted a bunch of sites encompassing fandom and random.

I’d like to take this opportunity to say that Angie is a great sport. She not only comes along with me willingly but she encourages my insanity and vice versa. Together we brainstormed for a long time, and came up with ideas for several RPs that we would very much enjoy, even if no other members joined the sites. We have been hurriedly putting together the sites and after almost a month of preparation we are on the cusp of making them go live.

The first site we decided on was a Heroes Fandom RP called “Just For One Day” after the David Bowie song Heroes. It is set 30 years in the future, evolved humans are common knowledge and the ability to gain artificial evolved powers is available. We have 4 factions to chose from being Pinehearst, The Company, Linderman Industries, and Neutral, which are all outlined on the site. After much debate we decided that cannon characters will be allowed, it was not our intent at first, but as we worked on the site, we realized that there will be players who would like to take on a cannon character.

The next one we decided on was a Harry Potter RP called “Do You Believe In Magic.” The time setting is, again, 30 years in the future. There are the obvious factions in this RP of Good, Evil and Neutral. Again, the debate over cannon characters was decided for the side of allowing them, but they must have aged appropriately. The best part, in my opinion, of this RP is that Ida is going to be the transfigurations professor at Hogwarts (what else would she be?) This is also a world in which the Wizarding and Muggle Communities have co-mingled. There is a new Dark Wizard (Dementia Doughall) who’s parents were killed by the Death Eaters. She has sworn an oath to kill all pureblood’s, even those who were previously marked as muggle lovers. Yes, our geekdom knows no bounds.

One of my absolute favorite RPs is not actually of fandom at all, but is set in New York city and is a place where anything goes. It is called “New York, New York” and is basically, as the name suggests, an RP of new your city on a small scale. No super powers, no magic, just some good old fashioned living in the city where anything is possible. There are plans to encompass a vacation section so that if you make friends with a supermodel and want to tag along with them to Milan, you can.

Angie’s number one, all time favorite is called “A Rainbow Still Looks Pretty When it Bleeds” which is a line from the Scissor Sisters Song Almost Sorry, since that is a really long title, we have shortened it to “Bleeding Rainbow” for the site name and when we refer to it in conversation. This RP is a Soap Opera in it’s basic sense. It’s set in Verona, and there are 2 main families, the Montague’s and the Capulet’s, although characters are not limited to those two families for the main reason of avoiding incestuous situations. The hope is for this RP to become Dynasty, Dallas, and Melrose Place rolled into one. I know this one will be good fun.

We have plans for a Supernatural theme RP in which there cannot be cannon characters. You can chose to be a supernatural being or a human. The choices for humans are either a supernatural hunter, a neutral party, or someone who is in league with supernatural beings. We do not have a lot of information about this one, but more will become available as we get the kinks worked out.

In other news, Angie and I have decided to close our writers workshop due to lack of participation. Fortuna’s Garden and Archive will be close and the end of this billing cycle with our host, and will be inactive immediately. I will be moving my writing blog to WordPress.com.

Our hope is to affiliate our RP sites with our friends writers workshop, Gluttony.
